Impressionist Women

25 February 2012

An intriguing talk, with slides, by Jackie Garner.

Jackie will take a glimpse into the lives of two of the best known female members of the French Impressionist movement.  The first half concentrates on Berthe Morisot. the second half on Mary Cassat.

We explore their similarities and differences and see how two women artists in a man's world produced some of the most radical work in the history of art.  Not to be missed.

Pastels with Roger Jones

26 February 2012

A workshop with Roger Jones  - Sunday 26 February in the Studio

We advise you to book early for this Pastels workshop as it's likely to be extremely popular!

Roger Jones will explore the tonal build-up to a pastel painting and then show how a competent sketch can be 'dressed' using pastel pencils and sticks.

Roger will provide reference material but is happy for you to bring your own if you wish.  He doesn't want to impose a materials list but it may be useful for you to know that he plans to use water-soluble graphite penciles/magic markers, pastel pencils and sticks and, of course, suitable rough-surfaced papers.

His website www.roger-jones.co.uk is a useful introduction to his style of painting.

The cost is expected to be around £22, dependent on numbers attending.  If you would like to attend, please email David King as soon as possible.

Time: 10am - 4pm
